Hurricanes and powerful storms are rare in November , but a few days before Vi and Andrew’s wedding, a tropical storm was making its way toward Florida and its path then swung north through Georgia.

We were going to have rain for certain, but I kept holding out hope that it would clear early. We made rain back-up plans. And we tracked the storm almost obsessively.

I’ve had rainy wedding days, and we always get gorgeous photos. And I’ve offered couples free shoots on a sunny day, but we were all hoping against hope that the weather would cooperate.

The day dawned with great hope, but alas the rain came.

I dashed over to Whitefield Square, where there’s a beautiful white gazebo, one of the few covered spaces in the historic district of Savannah that makes for gorgeous photos. On rainy Saturdays, it can be a contest for who can get their couple there first. Luckily, Vi and Andrew married on Friday. The gazebo was open, save for two tourist, who were kind enough to brain the rain and make way for the couple.

We did their first look, and even stepped out of the gazebo under umbrellas to grab a few photos. And then the rain started to recede. We called and had the wedding party and family members meet us in Forsyth Park, where everyone – ladies in heels sinking into wet ground and all – happily braved the elements.

Photos finished, we headed for the Charles Morris Center, where the couple honored their fathers, both of whom have passed away. After the beautiful ceremony and cocktail hour with seriously yummy appetizers, everyone headed inside to find their place at the gorgeous tables laden with flowers and candles.

And Vi had a special surprise for each guest: a unique place card with a photo she had of the person. She had looked through DECADES of photos to find one for each guest, a sweet memory of their relationship to the couple. Guests were surprised, and it was SO fun to see their reactions. What a fabulous idea!
