Elegant Indoor Locations for Romantic Photos

Savannah’s charm isn’t limited to its streets and squares–some of the city’s most captivating photo locations are found indoors. From curated museum spaces to grand historic homes or local bars, these interiors offer rich history and a sense of intimacy that complements romantic photographs.

Indoor locations also provide a timeless alternative when the weather is unpredictable, or simply too hot, without sacrificing beauty or elegance.

Telfair Academy Museum

Savannah’s first public art museum, the Telfair Academy, is a beautiful location for photos. The mansion was built in 1820 and after her death, Mary Telfair generously gifted much of her art collection and property to the city of Savannah. The home’s Roman-style pillars and elegant facade make a striking first impression. Inside, each room is filled with artwork and historic detail, creating a quintessential Southern setting that adds depth and character to every moment captured.

Green Meldrim House

The Green-Meldrim House was built in the 1850s by a wealthy cotton merchant named Charles Green. During the Civil War, General Sherman used the home as his headquarters when he came into Savannah. It is from this house that he wrote the famous telegram to President Lincoln, offering him the city of Savannah as a Christmas gift. (Legend has it, Lincoln was a little embarrassed–apparently, he didn’t realize they were exchanging gifts that year.)

Today, the house is owned and lovingly maintained by St. John’s Episcopal Church, and it is just as beautiful today. The interiors, gardens, and overall grandeur make it a favorite location for anyone looking to create truly timeless memories.

Whitefield Square Gazebo

While technically outdoors, the Whitefield Square gazebo earns an honorable mention as an indoor-adjacent space. Named after Reverand Whitefield, who founded one of the oldest orphanages in the country, Whitefield Square is surrounded by beautiful Southern homes. At the center of the square stands a Victorian gazebo, perfect for romantic portraits or even a surprise proposal.

Savannah’s Beauty in Photos

From moss-draped avenues and sunlit squares to elegant interiors and historic landmarks, each location brings its own personality and atmosphere. Whether you’re drawn to classic Southern architecture, lush greenery, or refined indoor spaces, Savannah offers a backdrop that is both timeless and beautiful to celebrate your love through photos.
