Capturing the silhouette of a bride in her gown is one of my favorite moments on a wedding day. Stripped of all other details, the bridal photo becomes beautifully simple—just the light and the elegance of the bride herself.
Silhouette portraits naturally draw attention to the beauty of the moment. Without facial expressions or elaborate styling, you’re left with something timeless: the outline of a bride on her wedding day.
I often create these images in a doorway, against a window, or in a softly lit hallway. The setting doesn’t need to be elaborate, in fact, the simpler the space, the better. What matters most is the contrast and the way the light wraps around the dress. Lace, tulle, and beading are seen in a different way, turning the gown into its own work of art.
For brides, these silhouette portraits are often a favorite. The photo isn’t about posing perfectly or smiling on cue, it’s about capturing elegant, understated beauty.
