Savannah is a city that feels like it was made for love stories. Its romantic streets, sunlit squares and towering oaks create an atmosphere that has made it one of the South’s most popular destinations for proposals and weddings.
In this multi-part series, I’ll be sharing the best photo locations in Savannah–spots filled with romance, history, and unmistakable Southern charm. From iconic Forsyth Park to lesser-known historic streets, each guide highlights what makes these places perfect for couples in love. Whether you’re planning an engagement session, a proposal, or destination wedding, you’ll find inspiration for where to capture Savannah at its best.
Named for Marquis de Lafayette, a French hero of the revolutionary War, Lafayette Square is one of Savannah’s most beautiful and photographed locations. Its striking black fountain, a gift to commemorate the city’s 250th anniversary, draws both visitors and locals’ admiration.
Around the square, you’ll find some of Savannah’s most notable architecture. The Andrew Low House–home to the founder of the Girl Scouts and one of the city’s oldest buildings–stands on one side, while the historic Hamilton Turner Inn sits on the other. Wrapped in local lore and rumored hauntings Lafayette Square is often a part a stop on some of Savannah’s popular haunted tours.
Just steps away from the square, is the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Its iconic twin steeples rise above the treetops, creating a breathtaking backdrop for photos in the area.
The unforgettable beauty of Lafayette Square makes it the perfect location for photos.
