Expert Advice from a Luxury Wedding Photographer

Have you wondered what season is the best for your wedding? There is no right answer to that question since each season offers something unique and special. The time of year you walk down the aisle impacts not only your venue and decor, but also your wedding photography. Explore the styles of spring, summer, fall and winter to help you decide what is perfect for your vision, and your wedding photos.

Spring Weddings: Romantic & Bloom-Filled

Spring tends to be a popular season for weddings. Warm (but not hot) temperatures and pastel spring flowers are in bloom. The wedding photography is dreamy and soft with lush gardens and spring in full bloom.

Savannah in Spring:

  • St. Patrick’s Day (HUGE, raucous Savannah celebration) is always an extra busy time in the city.
  • Early March can be chilly and breezy, but by late March, temperatures are warming to the 70s. April tends mild, mostly in the 80s, and by mid-to late May, it’s starting to feel like summer with temps reaching the 90s.
  • The spring azaleas bloom any time from late February toto early May. Azaleas bloom at different times in different areas of the city.

Summer Weddings: Bright & Bold

Summer weddings are a time to capture the beauty of long days and idealic sunsets. Bright flowers and flowy gowns are a part of your wedding photos as gardens are perfect for summer weddings.

Savannah in Summer:

  • Summer skies tend to be quite bright so shooting in shade or close to sunset is ideal.
  • June, July and August are the warmest months, with temperatures in the 80s and 90s. You and also expect high humidity. Savannah also has high afternoon showers frequently during the summer months. The showers tend to pop up and dissipate quickly.

Fall Weddings: Moody & Full of Color

Fall weddings are a favorite because of the stunning autumn flowers and golden tones. The weather is crisp, the colors are rich, and the lighting is often soft and flattering.

Savannah in Fall:

  • Fall in Savannah can feel like an extended summer, milder with temperatures in the 70s and 80s often lasting into November.
  • The one caution: hurricanes. The good news: Savannah RARELY has a direct hit, but we usually get some intense weather when hurricanes skirt by us.

Winter Weddings: Elegant & Cozy

Winter weddings are less common, which can make yours stand out. Snowy backdrops, cozy lighting, and rich tones can create stunning, magazine-worthy wedding photos.

Savannah in Winter:

  • Winter in Savannah is usually mild, although we do have days where temperatures dip to freezing or below.
  • At Christmas the city decorates parks and squares in the historic district with beautiful live garland and red velvet ribbons.
  • Savannah’s oak trees are evergreen; they don’t lose their leaves (or moss) and are gorgeous year-round.

So, What’s the Best Season for Your Wedding?

There’s no perfect season, it depends on your personal style, venue preferences, and the atmosphere you want to create. From a photography standpoint, each season brings unique lighting, colors, and storytelling opportunities.

No matter the season, your wedding photos will be beautiful as your love is celebrated–whether it’s beside the azalea blooms in spring, the golden sun of summer, the colorful leaves of all or the twinkling lights of a winter evening.
