The historic Green Meldrim House is an ideal setting for beautiful bridal portraits, offering timeless charm that outshines even Savannah’s many picturesque locations. There is something about a bride in her gown standing in front of this stately home that just feels iconic. These are the kinds of portraits that get printed, framed, and passed down for generations—or at the very least end up on the desk of her new husband.

A House with a Story

The Green-Meldrim House was built in the 1850s by a wealthy cotton merchant named Charles Green. During the Civil War, General Sherman used the home as his headquarters when he came into Savannah. It is from this house that he wrote the famous telegram to President Lincoln, offering him the city of Savannah as a Christmas gift. (Legend has it, Lincoln was a little embarrassed, apparently he didn’t realize they were exchanging gifts that year.)

Today, the house is owned and lovingly maintained by St. John’s Episcopal Church, and it is just as beautiful today. The interiors, gardens, and overall grandeur make it a favorite location for anyone looking to create truly timeless memories.

A rare example of Gothic Revival architecture in the South, the Green-Meldrim House makes a statement. The sweeping verandas, arched windows, wrought-iron details invite a bride to lean in for beautiful portraits. The dramatic interiors with soaring ceilings create stunning backdrop for special photos of the bride. Whether you are drawn to the drama of the front parlor or the quiet romance of the ivy-lined gardens, every angle is stunning.
